Located at the southwest corner of Boston, and bordering Brookline and Dedham, West Roxbury was originally part of the town of Roxbury and home to a 19th century experimental, utopian community frequented by such notable writers as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Henry David Thoreau.
Today, West Roxbury serves as a city neighborhood with a suburban feel with tree lined streets and mostly single-family homes. Centre Street runs through West Roxbury and is lined with restaurants, supermarkets and shops. Residents enjoy access around the city via the VFW parkway and take pleasure in visiting Millennium Park and its 100 acres of trails, ball fields and picnic areas.
