East Boston is separated from the rest of the city by Boston Harbor, and is bordered by Winthrop, Revere and Chelsea. Across the harbor, East Boston faces the North End and Financial District.
East Boston is connected to the mainland by the Sumner, Callahan and Ted Williams tunnels, and houses Logan Airport, New England’s primary international airport.
Sites of interest in “Eastie” include a 35’ statue of the Madonna, which is located atop Orient Heights, Constitution Beach, Piers Park and Suffolk Downs horse track.
Recently, the Boston Redevelopment Authority has begun implementing the East Boston Municipal Harbor Plan, with the goal of connecting East Boston to its waterfront.
